Cruel Youth

from The One You Need by The Moon Baby

/

about

Hyacinthus and the god Apollo were lovers. Hyacinthus, of beautiful Spartan youth, loved athletics, and one day the two decided to practice throwing the discus. Apollo went first, sending the disc flying up to “scatter the clouds” as Ovid says. Hyacinthus ran laughing after it, thinking to catch the disc, but instead it hit him in the head, killing him. In honor of his lover, Apollo made a flower spring up from Hyacinthus’ blood.

lyrics

In that endless spring I was hopin’
Watching from the bleachers
But keep my soul inside
He would bust it open
Cut my life in two
But keep my soul inside, fuck me out of my cruel youth
My cruel youth
I’m not only yours
I’m part of the world
I’m not only yours
I’m part of the world
Loving me it aint no fault, why should I blame you
No huge mistake, you can’t steal me
steal me back from fate
Finally alive, fuck me out my cruel youth
My cruel youth
Youth
Youth
I’m not only yours
I’m part of the world
I’m not only yours
I’m part of the world
Can you see me?
Can you see me?
I can feel you here
